The importance of sports in the life of a young student is invaluable and plays a pivotal role in the makeup of a young athlete, especially in the middle school to high school years where student athletes are much more mature and mentally developed. 11.05.16 : CLASS VI-XII INTER HOUSE BASKETBALL COMPETITION

“The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.”
- Phil Jackson

Sport is an essential part of the curriculum which inculcates sportsmanship, discipline and team spirit in students. Keeping this in mind, Queen’s Valley organised Inter Class Basketball Tournament for the students of classes VI – XII on 11 th May 2015 and was met with great enthusiasm by the whole school.

Its objective was to develop in the students a sporting spirit, a venue to display their physical prowess and gain hands on experience for future. Basketball is a team sport. The fundamentals include working on the little things that make you better -- no matter what team or coach one plays for -or what offense or defense one is running. For example, by working on the fundamentals of shooting, one will get better no matter what team we play for. The fundamentals of shooting include proper foot alignment, leg bend, hand position, arm angle, and follow through. These are some of the little things that make a difference. The same goes for lays ups, foot work, post play, passing, jab steps, jump stops, pivoting, blocking out, and so on.

The day was scheduled to begin at 8 am where the students gathered in the basketball court. All the required arrangements were made and the students participated with greatfervour. During the two days of the prelims, the basketball court at Queen’s Valley was packed with spectatorsand it was a nail biting sports bonanza which kept the audience hooked to their seats. The players played at their best. The students enthusiastically displayed fair play which wasa wonderful experience.

06.05.16-10.05.16 : Investiture Ceremony (2016-17)

A democratic body like the students’ council voices the concerns and opinions of students, and empowers them with a sense of liberty accompanied with responsibility. A good students’ council introduces activities and projects which act as testing ground for novel ideas which in turn, have the potential to lead the way to constructive change by balancing the long-term initiatives of past with the impending needs of future.

In order to prepare students to participate more fully in all facets of democratic life, the institution commemorated the spirit of the Indian Constitution by involving all students from classes IX –XII in the selection of the students' governing body. Technology was employed as an effective means to initiate the students in understanding the transparent and accountable nature of our democratic institution. In order to make the procedure voter-friendly the webpage displayed the photographs and names of all the candidates. The exercise empowered the students to intensively participate in decision making process and helped to inculcate the values of responsibility, academic integrity and exemplary moral conduct.

The Investiture Ceremony held on July 13th 2016, marked not just the formal announcement of giving away of titles to the newly elected students’ council but also reasserted the belief that the reigns of maintaining a disciplined environment have been entrusted in competent hands. The ceremony was a significant step towards the fulfillment of our aspiration to see our students evolve into responsible individuals- individuals who value dignity of labour and display firmness of mind.

The ceremony commenced with the felicitation of the members of the students’ council by the venerable Principal. This was followed by the students taking an oath of sincerity, dedication and transparency in discharging their duties and a reiteration of the significance of the school motto. The event concluded with the Principal’s words of wisdom as she encouraged not only the members of the council to channelise their unbounded potential in a deeply engaging manner but also the audience to participate enthusiastically in realising the goals.
