‘Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen, Voices whisper in the trees, "Tonight is Halloween!’

- Dexter Kozen

Halloween has its roots in the ancient, pre-Christian Celtic festival of Samhainor "End of Summer”, which is celebrated on the night of October 31. The Celts believed that on this harvest festival the dead revisit the land of the living and that communal fire was needed to ward off all evil. Halloween comes from All Hallow Even, the eve (night before) of All Hallows day. Therefore, Halloween is the eve of All Saints Day.

A special assembly was conducted by the Students of Class VI Bof Queen’s Valley School on the 28th October, 2016 on the occasion of Halloween. Witches, Zombies, Ghosts and Ghouls were seen in the corridors of Queen’s Valley School. The audience was thrilled to see them walking on the stage in their scary and dreadful attire. The horrifying spirits singing and dancing on stage made the audience shiver.

After a captivating performance, the students imparted a powerful message to the audience- 'The Lord is my light and the one who saves me. I'm not afraid of anyone’, left them spellbound.

26.10.16: Inter-Class Gymnastics Competition

“Everything is about your movements and precisions and timings, which is what gymnastics is about.”

- Shawn Johnson

Gymnastics is a sport involving the performance of exercises requiring physical strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and balance. Participation in gymnastics helps children become physically active, stay fit and healthy. Attaining success at gymnastics teaches the student self-confidence and boosts self-esteem. Gymnastics helps students learn new skills by engaging the mind and body.

The Gymnastics Academy of Boston also believes that gymnastics gives children an opportunity to learn social skills like listening, following directions, taking turns, being quiet and respecting others. The challenging nature of gymnastics requires commitment and concentration. The structure of gymnastic lessons teaches children how hard work and dedication pay off. Keeping this in mind QVS organized an Inter-Class Gymnastics competition on 26.10.2016 in the school premises ensuring maximum participation and mesmerizing performances by the flexible queens of the school. The young gymnasts warmed up the stage with floor exercises, cart wheels, routines on the balancing beam and trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics. The audience was left spell bound as they witnessed a variety of difficult exercises.

The competition was successfully organised and it gave our young athletes a great platform to exhibit their talent and hard work. They successfully proved that gymnastics helps children build a range of motor and coordination skills. Whether it is recreational gymnastics or competitive, skills learnt in gymnastics can benefit a child's overall development.
